  11. TCP/IP CONNECTIVITY SYSTEM

  18. Artisoft, Inc. announced today that it 
  19. has entered into a joint development 
  20. agreement with The Wollongong Group, 
  21. Inc. to create the newest product in the 
  22. LANtastic Connectivity Series, the 
  23. LANtastic for TCP/IP connectivity 
  24. system. Priced at $299 per node and 
  25. scheduled to ship this Fall, this 
  26. product will allow a workstation on a 
  27. LANtastic network to access a wide range 
  28. of systems throughout the network 
  29. including DEC VAX, HP and Sun 
  30. workstations, IBM(R) mainframes, and NCR 
  31. and AT&T minicomputers. TCP/IP is one of 
  32. the leading network protocols used by 
  33. mid-range systems in corporate 
  34. computing. Artisoft's commitment to the 
  35. TCP/IP platform significantly broadens 
  36. the company's business reach and marks 
  37. an important step forward for the 
  38. evolution of the peer-to-peer market.
  39.     "As the peer-to-peer network industry

  42. communications across multiple hardware

  49. VMS, UNIX or IBM host without additional

  51.     The LANtastic for TCP/IP network 
  52. provides powerful terminal emulators 
  53. that enable users to access 
  54. applications, share printers, and 
  55. transfer and manipulate files residing 
  56. on remote hosts, just as if the users 
  57. were directly connected. It supports 
  58. many TCP/IP applications, terminal 
  59. emulations, printing services, and 
  60. protocols; is compatible with 
  61. Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) and 
  62. Wollongong's host TCP/IP products; 
  63. offers a low RAM overhead; and supports 
  64. up to 255 users simultaneously.
  65.     The LANtastic for TCP/IP system is 
  66. designed specifically for LANtastic 
  67. networks and supports two major modes of 
  68. operation. The centralized TCP/IP server 
  69. is the recommended mode, in which a PC 
  70. on the network is setup as the TCP/IP 
  71. server for all TCP/IP users on the 
  72. network. The other mode, using multiple 
  73. servers, allows users to run the TCP/IP 
  74. software on their local machines.
  75.     Applications supported include Domain 
  76. Name Service, a centralized host name 
  77. database that facilitates user lookups; 
  78. TELNET, which provides the basis for 
  79. terminal emulation including 
  80. local/remote echo and suppress go-ahead; 
  81. and File Transfer Services, both FTP and 
  82. FTP server. FTP allows users to 
  83. manipulate and transfer files between 
  84. the local system and a remote host and 
  85. the FTP server provides access to PC 
  86. file systems including LAN file servers. 
  87. FTP server is capable of running in the 
  88. background and supports concurrent 
  89. TELNET, FTP and LPR applications. Other 
  90. applications supported include popular 
  91. UNIX R-commands, the PING Internet 
  92. Control message protocol, and the 
  93. industry-standard Network File System 
  94. (NFS).
  95.     Terminal emulations supported include 
  96. DEC VT (with mouse support in Windows 
  97. environments), IBM Display Station 
  98. (screen sizes, color support, extended 
  99. attributes and status line), Keyboard 
  100. Remapping between PC keyboards and DEC 
  101. VT or 3270 style keyboards, Multiple 
  102. Sessions (up to 25 individual session 
  103. can be established concurrently, 
  104. dependent on available system memory) 
  105. and Third Party Terminal Emulation 
  106. Support.
